The Director of FBM will be responsible for building and leading a team of highly motivated and scientifically knowledgeable MSLs and HOLs.  The Director of FBM will play a crucial role in facilitating strong MSL and HOL relationships across the healthcare landscape with external customers in their region through expert peer-to-peer engagements. By maintaining a high-level understanding of customer needs across the cardiovascular therapeutic area, the Director of FBM is expected to understand and evaluate the organization’s opportunities and constraints to advance the care continuum and the delivery of healthcare through broad clinical and build capabilities with an enterprise mindset. The Director of FBM will be accountable for coaching, mentoring, and leading the FBM teams to deliver a valued scientific customer experience and cultivating a sense of cross-functional collaboration. As Director of FBM, you will be responsible for information management, scientific resource development, strategic planning, business development, external research, and other projects that increase the value and productivity of Medical Affairs (MA).  In addition, the Director of FBM will be responsible to ensure the FBM teams maintain the highest ethical standards and conduct work their work in a compliant manner.

As a member of the Medical Leadership Team (MLT), the Director of FBM will: integrate insights from the FBM teams, collaborate to shape this input, and communicate with the appropriate cross-functional functions to help drive medical strategy and tactical planning. Applying advanced field-based medical (FBM) experience, subject matter knowledge, and skills, the Director of FBM will support medical strategies for Milestone compounds and ensure proper training for the FBM teams so they are equipped to address unsolicited requests for medical information from healthcare professionals, as well as managed care organizations, payers and other formulary decision makers. The Director of FBM will accountable for ensuring the FBM teams support internal and external training and disease-state education activities, as appropriate.


  • Managing FBM activities relevant to the science, disease state, and competitive clinical data pertinent to an assigned product/program
  • Representing MA by providing scientific and/or strategic insights to teams in various venues, such as Commercial and cross-functional teams, launch planning teams, MLT meetings, working groups and any other teams designated
  • Co-creating the regional strategy, objectives, and priorities with the field based MSL team and business partners in alignment with business needs, in response to the changing healthcare landscape and customer needs, in order to increase customer satisfaction, improve outcomes and lower overall healthcare cost
  • Developing and maintaining relationships externally with Professional Associations, Professional Meetings, and International/Regional Conferences, etc. to achieve Milestone’s medical/scientific strategic objectives, with internal coordination of activities across regions to optimize Milestone’s interactions
  • Oversight for the identification, planning, coordination, and execution of US medical conferences including medical information booth presence, symposia and alignment of competitive intelligence and conference reporting and post-meeting communication of relevant emerging data with implications for Milestone
  • Oversight of FBM medical and scientific relationships with defined group of US Key External Stakeholders (KES)
  • Developing and monitoring appropriate Key Performance Indicators and metrics for FBM
  • Identification and management of appropriate vendors to advance the efficiency of FBM
  • Providing updates and relevant information inclusive of both disease state and, where appropriate, TA portfolio specific updates and information
  • Working closely with cross-functional partners on strategy development, alignment, and supports the in the execution of appropriate activities
  • Collaborating with VP of Medical Affairs regarding the execution of strategy at medical conferences and Milestone-sponsored meetings by coordinating meeting coverage, HCP engagement and, where appropriate, medical booth leadership and staffing, pre-conference briefing meetings, leading daily meeting debriefs, and generating post-meeting reports
  • Oversight of the collection and reporting and integration of medical insights and intelligence from FBM to define and support medical strategies
  • Working with and facilitating cross-functional development of activities that are aligned with the medical strategies to support a designated product/program, including oversight for relevant training
  • Participating in the development of the integrated US launch plan and serve as a medical affairs participant on the extended launch team for assigned product/program
  • Inspire, lead, and provide strategic professional development, mentorship, and coaching, empowering your team to deliver all aspects related to scientific exchange


  • Masters in a health-sciences related field or Doctoral degree preferred, such as a PharmD, MD, PhD, NP or PA, with a thorough grasp of the pharmaceutical industry
  • Eight years of healthcare or related experience (managed markets, clinical practice, research or academic) including a minimum of four years of FBM experience within the pharmaceutical industry
  • At least five year of line management, or similar experience, preferred
  • Cardiovascular experience is desired
  • Ability to build, lead, and develop a team of highly performing and motivated individuals
  • Demonstrations of a deep passion for medicine, science, clinical development, and medical communication
  • Possesses superior communication skills, both oral and written, and able to engender trust and respect of peers, subordinates, and superiors. Importantly, knows how to adjust communication depending on the matter at-hand, and comfortably flexes among situations.
  • Well-versed in highly technical and scientific languages in order to communicate with Key External Stakeholders, Medical Affairs, Research and Development, as well as other key internal and external stakeholders
  • In-depth understand of the US healthcare, payer, and regulatory environment
  • Firm understanding of the key phases, processes, and techniques that are involved in both the pre-clinical and clinical aspects of drug development
  • Ability to use field-based electronic or other communication tools for all aspects of job.
  • Requires a deep understanding of scientific, clinical, market and product information and the ability to discuss and communicate this information with top experts in their field.
  • Requires the knowledge and expertise to interpret and share this information with internal stakeholders across multiple functions
  • Proven track record of teamwork, leadership, timely decision making and results orientation in meeting objectives
