June 7th – during World Heart Rhythm Week — is an annual day dedicated to raising awareness and increasing recognition of the burden of PSVT. With education and advocacy, we can help patients understand why their hearts are racing upwards of 150 bpm, and possibly reduce the degree to which PSVT is undiagnosed or even misdiagnosed. #PSVT #SVTawareness
How Common is Paroxysmal Supraventricular Tachycardia?
Approximately 2 million people in the US have been diagnosed with PSVT. There could be thousands of others who still don’t know that they are living with the disease.
Since this condition is often undiagnosed or misdiagnosed, this PSVT Awareness Day—and every day—if you or a loved one has had unexplained palpitations, panic attacks, or anxiety, you should consider seeking medical attention to get it diagnosed because it could be PSVT.
In many cases, it may take years before a formal diagnosis of PSVT is made. In a recent analysis of over 6400 patients, close to half presented with initial onset symptoms 3-5 years prior to PSVT diagnosis.*
