Jonathan P. Piccini, MD

Duke University Medical Center

Dr. Piccini is a clinical cardiac electrophysiologist and Associate Professor of Medicine with tenure at Duke University Medical Center and the Duke Clinical Research Institute. His focus is on the care of patients with atrial fibrillation and complex arrhythmias, with particular emphasis on catheter ablation, left atrial appendage occlusion, and lead extraction.

Dr. Piccini’s research interests include assessment of innovative cardiovascular therapeutics for the care of patients with heart rhythm disorders. At present, he is the Director of the Duke Center for Atrial Fibrillation and Duke Center for Arrhythmia Research and Treatment Innovation at Duke University. He has served as the principal investigator and/or study chair for several atrial fibrillation clinical trials and registries, including RESTORE SR, ORBIT AF I & II, and GENETIC AF, the first trial of pharmacogenetic guided rhythm control. He also serves as the principal investigator for the American Heart Association-Get with the Guidelines Program Analytic Center.

Dr. Piccini is an associate editor for the American Heart Journal and serves on the editorial board of several journals, including Heart Rhythm, the European Heart Journal, JACC: Clinical Electrophysiology, Circulation: Arrhythmia & Electrophysiology and the Journal of Cardiac Electrophysiology. Dr. Piccini has more than 300 publications in the field of heart rhythm medicine.
